Tips for Welding Aluminum Mig Wire

Aluminum mig welding can be a great pain unless your machine is not capable of moving the soft wires through the welding gun. To get the best aluminum mig wire it is important that you do the welding correctly. The process of welding should be proper because most of the issues arise due to the improper welding of aluminum. While welding ally using a mig welder you should remember a few tips.

The best diameters that you should consider for aluminum mig wire should be 5653 grade wire. The reason being, 5653 grade wire is finer and one can easily feed it through the welding gun. Larger diameter will always be firmer and will have a better feed ability. Before welding, cleaning of the area that is to be weld is very important because you need to remove the oxide that is present. Make sure you do not use the brush on other areas as it can contaminate the weld. It is important to use a stainless steel brush to clean the ally. To make the wire easily feed through the gun use plastic lines instead of steel. Talking about the feed rolls it is better to use U shaped feed rolls rather than V shaped because U shaped rolls will provide you with more surface area.

The other tip for welding aluminum mig wire is that you should use a mig welding gun that is perfectly in shape. The wire should not be twisted at all. Even a slight turn or twist can harm the process. The other area of concern is the tip, contact tip should be over sized and there is no need to use push pull guns. There is a misconception that a push pull gun should be used for aluminum mig welding wire. You can easily do without a push and pull gun. The gas that is used for aluminum mig welding wire should be 100% Argon. All these tips are very helpful and when mixed along with a good machine for aluminum mig welding wire, you are bound to get optimum results.
